Class Guidelines and expectations
This page will give you a general overview on class policies, guidelines and expectations.
engage in the learning
- Listen
- Give everyone a chance to do their own thinking (don’t call out)
- Ask questions
- Contribute to the discussion and build on the ideas of others
- Take notes
- Stay on task
- Respect people, space, and materials
- Monitor the noise-level
come prepared to learn
Arrive to class on time, and each day bring the four essentials to class:
- your math binder with your math notebook
- at least three pencils with erasers
- a red pen (for correcting your work)
- your homework binder with Dragon book.
Staying Organized
Use your Dragon book every day.
Your effort to stay organized will help ensure that you can find the materials you need to be successful. Your math binder should have five tabs.
1. Daily Work
2. Reference
3. Assessments
4. Challenge
5. Extra paper

Homework Expectations
On every assignment:
Checking Your Work: Especially check for answers that don’t make sense.
Due Dates: Unless otherwise noted, homework is due at the next class meeting.
Absences
Grading Homework
Homework is graded for completion only, not accuracy (since the goal is to get some practice).
2 – Homework is done
1 – Homework is late or fails to meet the expectations
0 – Homework is not submitted
Missed homework will impact both your academic grade and your effort grade. Remember one late homework means you will not be eligible for a “1” effort grade.
- Write your name and date.
- Use a pencil
- Show your work!!!!
- Work independently
- Work diligently for 30 minutes
- After 30 minutes, you MAY stop. Parents do have the option of requiring more time.
- Practice is only helpful if it’s you practicing (not friend, parent, tutor)
- If you get help, write me a note (on Edmodo).
- If homework is a struggle, write me a note (on Edmodo).
- If homework is a breeze, write me a note (on Edmodo).

Absences
- If you are absent, send me a note (on Edmodo), and I will send you the assignment.
- See me when you return to school.
- It is your responsibility to make up work you missed while you were absent.

Assessment and Learning Process
See the page on the Assessment and Learning Process.
Effort and Behavior Grades
In addition to your academic grades, I will also assess your behavior and effort on your Interim Progress Report (IPR) and your term report card. You will find the rubric for how I determine your behavior and effort grades here. Homework completion is a major part of your effort grade.
